Overview

The problem we set out to solve.

Prefolk is an AI user-testing product. A cast of AI personas explores your site with a goal in mind. They hesitate and give up in the same places real people do, and Prefolk hands back scored, evidence-backed findings.

  • Real user testing costs $50–100 per tester and takes weeks to organise.
  • Friends and early supporters say “looks great” because they are being kind.
  • One “average user” misses the point: a rushed founder, a non-technical customer and a skeptical developer leave for different reasons.

What we built

Every part, built to work in the real world.

Personas that browse for real

Each persona drives a real browser towards a goal and captures a screenshot before every action.

Reports tied to evidence

Every finding links to the moment it happened, what went wrong and the next move, rolled into a first-impression score.

Workspaces and teams

Personal and team workspaces with roles and email invitations.

Auth built from scratch

Email and password with verification, rotating refresh tokens, Google sign-in and argon2id hashing.

Usage that never drifts

Session credits are reserved when a test starts and settled when it finishes.

Admin with an audit trail

Cross-workspace admin tools where every privileged action is recorded.

How it's built

A Next.js 16 frontend and a FastAPI backend in one repository. Routes translate HTTP, services hold the business rules, and every request runs in a single database transaction. Browser sessions run in their own isolated worker, so slow sites never block the API.

  • Next.js 16 & React 19Marketing site, product app and admin
  • FastAPI & SQLAlchemy 2API, services and data access
  • PostgreSQL on SupabaseData, with Alembic migrations
  • browser-use & PlaywrightPersonas driving a real browser
  • Supabase AuthGoogle sign-in via PKCE
  • ReportLabPDF export of reports
The outcome

Authentication, workspaces, personas, plans, usage accounting, the browser worker and reports are all working. Payments are the next milestone.
